Yes in the first photo I am wearing a Lincoln beard. I just want to clear that up right away.
Ok so we all know I am a nerd and historian and graduate student but how funny are these photos just on there on? My American History Abraham Lincoln course (you guys do know Lincoln grew up in Indiana right...he is a Hoosier). We had to visit 2 of the major Abraham Lincoln monuments (I mentioned how Indy has more monuments and memorials then Washington D.C. right?). So my tight knit group decided to go it together and walk through the rain to complete our course work. If you think the first Lincoln statue seems weird with its location at the Indiana Government Center you would be right. He was supposed to stand as a younger man among trees (which is why he is cut to resemble bark). The second statue is located in the South East corner of the Statehouse lawn. It was so fun studying these statues while walking in rain (which I LOVE) with some friends! I love it so! It was such a fun day!
Now I have been on a full on historical monument tour waaayyyy back in the day when I was a junior at Ben Davis High School. My history teacher Mrs. Johnson told us that the next day we would be going on the field trip. It was very interesting. I saw many monuments I had grown up visiting and saw many I had never noticed before. I also helped my teacher navigate the streets of downtown Indianapolis (which you know I know better then the back of my hand). It is a very fun high school memory.
Have you ever gone on a monument/culture/historical tour in your city?
